Poems:

The Best Minds of My Generation

I saw insanity
Staring into your scolding eyes
Pouring off the blank pages
In your tears of self pity
In your negligence
Whispered across the ghettos
Murmered through the fields
And in your insanity,
I saw the best minds of my generation

I saw joy
Laying beside me
Wafting through the kitchen door
In the waters of self-assurance
In your embrace
Dancing in the rain
Singing in the shower
And in my joy,
I saw the best minds of my generation

I saw fear
Looking death in the face
Criticizing my every flaw
In the bullet that will pierce my heart
In the failures of tomorrow
Waltzing through my dreams
Screaming in my ear
And in my fear,
I saw the best minds of my generation

And then I saw hope
Shining through the shadows of fear
Wiping away my tears
In the baby's smile
In the summer breeze
Laughing across the amber meadow
Kissing my life with the dew of a new morning
And in my hope,
I saw the best minds of my generation

She (Blue Eyes)

She was a blue-eyed girl

Living in a lonely world

But you never knew

The pain She was going through

To the outside, She had it all

You’d sit and wait for Her kingdom to fall

Little did you know it already had

That behind the smiles was a story quite sad

At night She’d lay in bed and cry

Feeling like everything inside had died

But you didn’t know these things:

She had a dance in Her step, a song in Her heart—She flew with Her own wings

So here’s the story that you never knew

The hell She was going through:

You see, there was a blue-eyed boy

Little did he care that he was Her pride and Her joy

Well this boy found another girl

This girl was his day, his night, his world

It killed Her to see him with another

But if asked, She said they were meant for each other

“At least She has Her friends,” you say?

Well when She needed them most, they simply walked away

Her world was shattered, torn upside-down

Her heart was tattered, in Her tears a hopeless dreamer drowned

So when She walks by, look the other way

Pretend like you have nothing to say

When She cries, don’t care

It’s not your fault—you were never there

And when you lie awake at night

Try to forget the sight:

Hiding behind Her sunglasses in the bright sunlight

Smiling, Lying saying everything is all right

But one look into those eyes of blue

And without a word She’ll tell you all that’s true

That living a lie is harder than it seems

When you’re only living on shattered dreams
